The idea was difficult for me to understand. But I grew up in a town near the sea. I was very familiar with the view of the horizon – only the sea! When I grew up, I didn’t want to live far from the sea. In fact, I have lived almost all my life near the coast. Sadly, I have seen many polluted coastlines. This article is about people and the sea. Sylvia Earle: National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle was called a "Hero for the Planet" by  Time  magazine. She’s an oceanographer, explorer, author, and lecturer. ANEXA A EN LA CARPETA  TALLER Nº 12 DETROIT: THEN AND NOW A message from Life co-author, Helen Stephenson The story of Detroit is very interesting. It’s a city that was rich, then it was poor and now it’s becoming rich again. I think it’s a ‘good news’ story. Detroit skyline with fireworks The American city of Detroit was like Paris, some people said. It had a big river, beautiful wide streets and important buildings. It wasn’t unusual to own a home, a boat and even a holiday home. In the 1950s, new highways were built and lots of people moved from the city centre to the suburbs. Life was good. But at the beginning of the 21st century, Detroit became America’s poorest big city....

LEE, CONSULTA PALABRAS Y ANALIZA LA LECTURA.  FOG CATCHER Y ESCRIBE LA IDEA CENTRAL DEL TEXTO. INGLÉS CLIMATIC PHENOMENA In recent years climatic phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña have increased the lack of water in several countries. Fog catchers are nets between two wooden poles that capture water without polluting the environment. Scientists are shell us collect water in an efficient way. They are especially effective in deserts, mountains and other places that have a lot of fog. In the Atacama Desert in Chile, fog catchers are used for water supply and agriculture with wonderful results. A team of engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is working to improve fog catchers. Scientists believe that, because they are easy to assemble and effective, fog catchers could become a globalized solution for water supply and agriculture all over the world.
